from Piermont Village is required to stay after dark so have your membership card with

Trip May 4, 2008 This trip located in Lewiston, NY
is scheduled for Saturday May 4 through Thursday May 8th. Darren and his crew will be
targeting salmon, steel head, lake trout and smallmouth bass.
They will be fishing the Niagara River for 3 days with one day dedicated to Lake
Ontario fishing. Darren has arranged to hire two well known HRFA Captains to help land
these illusive fish... Captain Jim Taylor of Hawg Master Charters and Captain Chris
Cinelli of Cinelli Charters.
The cost of this trip is in the range of $1,000. Darren suggests that you
dress for the weather in May and bring your own food and drink along with your own fishing
equipment. For more information and to sign up for this trip, contact Darren at
908-581-6677.

Good Day People, We need to
change the boat for Flounder Fishing on Saturday. The Elaine B is stuck in the boat repair
yard. (this is the fault of the repair yard place, not the Captain or boat), So we are
changing the boat over to the Angler out of Atlantic
Highlands. The hours are the same 7:30 to 2;30 (3/4 day). The fare
is $50. Attached is the web site. I also spoke with some HRFA regulars that fish
out of the Atlantic Highlands and they also recommend this boat (and will be there).
Any questions, don't hesitate to call me. I am not at work today, but
working on getting everything together for the Annual Dinner on Sunday. The link below
also has directions to the Angler.

Report
on this trip!! by Arnie Ulrich
Captain Ian Keniston and Jared Keniston ran the full day trip today. At 5:00 AM
EST, the air temperature was 43°F, the sky was overcast, it was misting, there was no
wind and the visibility was fair to good in some haze/fog. By 8:00 AM, it had stopped
misting and the roads were dry. The air temperature had risen to 46°F. The sky stayed
overcast all day with some periods where I thought the sun would peek out - but it didn't.
On the fishing grounds, the wind was light and variable, the ocean was calm and the
visibility was about a half mile to mile in fog and haze. The air temperature was cool all
day. The sea surface water temperature reached a high of 44.3°F again. The high air
temperature at the Portland International Jetport, Portland, Maine was 56°F (with
a low of 40°F) today. In Boston, Massachusetts the high was 52°F (with a low of 44°F)
today. Concord, New Hampshire's high temperature was 67°F (with a low of 43°F) today.
The fishing was very good. Almost everything legal that was boated was a haddock. Also,
like yesterday, for every two haddock caught, one was sub-legal and had to be returned.
Landings also included one legal cod and one wolffish. They drift fished all day. A bait
rig was, by far, the best choice if you wanted to catch fish.
Ray Johnson (NH) was high hook with sixteen legal haddock. His largest haddock
weighed 5.5 pounds. The largest fish of the day was an 8 pound wolffish caught by twelve
year old Ryan Keniston (ME). He did not enter the boat pool. Pete D'Alessio
(NJ) won the boat pool for the largest fish with the second largest fish, a 7.5 pound cod.
Vic Maltsev (NY) and Dan Merrow (NH) tied for the third largest fish of the
trip. They each caught a 6.5 pound haddock, just a half pound shy of the minimum
acceptance weight for a Maine state trophy.
Other Angler Highlights: Paul Grasso (MA) caught a 5 pound haddock and a 6 pound
haddock, his two largest fish. Paul DeFrancesco (MA) landed a 5.5 pound haddock,
his largest fish. Selina Chinapen (NY) landed the hard luck award for being the
most (only) sea sick angler. |

May

May 31, 2007 Keansbsburg PierThe
Hudson River Fishermens Association and the Salt Water Anglers of Bergen County will be hosting a Keansburg Pier Interclub fishing tournament in Keansburg, NJ. On Thursday, May 31st.
The two clubs will try fish it out against each other to claim the right of victory. Going
along with the prize of victory will be a prize of the free day pass for two anglers
donated by Cathy Smock, the manager and proprietor of the Keansburg Pier, to be used on the Keansburg Pier in 2007.The prizes
will go out to the largest legal fish in length of the following three species. Bluefish,
fluke and striped bass. Any one of these can win the day pass. Also, as an added bonus,
the winner of the tournament (does not matter which club) will get their picture taken and
in a placed on the cover of a future issue of Riverviews. The official newsletter of the HRFA! This tournament is designed for fun. No serious
fishing is required. Bring your family and your friends. However, to enjoy the discounted
pier fees and free or discounted bait, your adult friends need to be members of the HRFA. To join or learn more about
the HRFA, go to www.hrfa.us
For those with disabilities, a ride your location on the pier can be arranged by Cathy for
$1.00 Also, if you do not wish to fish but to visit. It is only $1.00 to get on the pier.
Again the date is May 31st, 2007. The HRFA will pay for a determined amount of bait.
However, please bear in mind that it may not be the type and amount you require.
Therefore, you should consider bringing your own bait or buying it from Cathy at her
tackle shop on the pier. This will be at your own cost. There will be a discounted cost to
get on the pier $6.00 per angler and parking fee of $5.00 per car so try to car/truck
pool. The tournament starts at the opening of the pier at 6 am and goes to the closing of
the pier at 10 pm. For more information, directions and a membership application go to www.hrfa.us or contact Carl Hartmann at chartmann@hrfanj.org For information
about the Keansburg Pier, directions and the latest fishing report over the phone, call

a daily permit for $10. We should receive a
limited number of permits for those who have difficulty walking distances. If you need a permit or just a ride or other

Update...3/28/06
When I talked to the Captain' s wife last week they didn't even know how much they
were going to set the price at for this years daily fares. They wanted to wait until their
first trip to decide because the gas price has been bouncing like a ping pong ball.

HRFA vs SWABC
7th Annual Inter-Club Surf Fishing Contest
PLACE: Sandy Hook Park, Sea Gulls Nest Restaurant
DAY/DATE: Sunday, October 1, 2006
TIME: 7:00am to 12:00pm
The HRFA needs your help to win this year's contest. We're
hoping that YOU can fish for the HRFA "Surf Marines" and YOU will be this year's
winner.
The rules are simple
fish anywhere within the Sandy
Hook Park shoreline (be it ocean, bay, or river) and the biggest fish WINS! NJ
Division of Fish and Game regulations apply and trash fish (ie:sand shark, skates, sea
robins, eels, etc) are excluded.
Two of the past six contests ended in both clubs being skunked. For that reason, this
year's event is being held a little earlier, as to allow fluke to be considered as a legal
fish. In past years, fluke fishing had already been closed to those events. The winning
club shall hold bragging rights for a year as the best surf-fishing club in Bergen County!
The winning angler will have his/her name, their respective club's name, and species/size
of fish caught engraved on the club plaque. Past winner's representing the HRFA "Surf
Marines" has been Chris Ilg, Carl Hartmann, and Tim Burden.
Bait will be provided for HRFA members, as will breakfast
consisting of coffee, bagels, and donuts. A hot lunch (most likely to be clam chowder,
baked ziti and ?) will be served immediately after the contest ends.

| Guttenberg Senior Fishing Trip October 5, 2005
Thursday, October
5, 2005 Len Litof, a Guttenberg senior and member of the Hudson River Fishermans
Association, led an intrepid band of Guttenberg seniors from the Town Hall to beautiful
Ocean Breeze fishing pier, an 830 foot long concrete pier jutting out into the harbor on
Staten Island. The pier is equipped for fishing, with basins of water for tending to your
catch and cleaning your hands. Rod holders are even located along the rails for comfort.
For most, it
was a first time fishing experience in a long lifetime of experiences. For others, it was
a dusting off of pleasant memories of their younger days.
Len Litof, who was
responsible for bringing the Hudson Tech Explorer 2000 Program, the Youth Angler Program
of the New Jersey Hudson River Fishermans Association, as well as the Guttenberg
Mayors Town Council, and Guttenbergs school district together for a great
fishing experience for 7th and 8thth graders, thought it would be a
superb idea to do for the seniors of Guttenberg. Len
then prepared a detailed proposal to the Mayor, David Della Donna and his Town Council. After many discussions and consideration, the Mayor,
gave Litofs proposal its blessing and agreed to fund and
support the fishing trip as a way to allowing our seniors a day in the fresh air and a
chance to catch the ocean breezes as well as fish.
Litof then wrote up
flyers and had them posted in prominent areas in town where the seniors, who wishing to
go, could call and sign up to reserve a place on the luxury bus provided by the Mayor.
Len contacted the
Hudson River Fishermans Association and told them of the impending outing. The Association approved the outing, provided, the
rods, reels and above all, a cadre of experienced fisherman, to be at the pier assisting
the Guttenberg seniors in the art of fishing. Len,
and these men, Glen Blank, Al White and Tony Di Modugno, are usually working with our
Youth Anglers group from Jerseys inner city schools and were eager to be with a
senior group, especially since they are seniors themselves.
The Hudson River Fishermans Association is an
environmental group, over 600 strong, who work tirelessly to clean the Hudson River of
pollutants as well as keep recreational sport fishing alive. You might have seen a recent
result as General Electric, after 30 years, has agreed to begin cleaning up 45 miles of
the river.
Upon reaching
the sun drenched pier, the seniors were greeted by Len Litof and his volunteers, fantastic
weather and beautiful views of the Verranzano Bridge, Brooklyn and the Lower New York Bay.
All was in
readiness for the fun to come. Rods, reels,
hooks baited with sand worms, and many, many fish below.
After a brief lesson
on how the rods worked, down into the water went the
lines. Not 5 minutes elapsed when shouts of
joy and laughter were heard. Of course,
guys, the first fish was landed by a lady. This
lady exclaimed I never fished in my life.
Len
Glen - Tony and Al were kept hopping, removing fish from the hooks, taking pictures,
releasing fish to the water and baiting hooks.
This went on
until lunchtime, when turkey, roast beef, ham and salami sandwiches were served, along
with chips and sodas. All provided free by the Mayor and Town Council of Guttenberg.
After lunch some continued fishing while others took a stroll on the boardwalk
along the beach.
At about 3:00 pm, the seniors returned to their luxury bus.
Then, they were transported to Guttenberg Town Hall. Many
seniors told Len to thank the Mayor for a wonderful day and asked when the next fishing
trip will be held. Len replied that he is
working on more outings like this and hopes the Town will be as gracious as they were
today.
For the
record, the fish they caught were porgies and the volunteers estimated that at least 75
fish were caught and released live. The
largest porgy was 10 ½. The smallest,
was 3 inches.
In summation,
a great time was had by all.
Len Litof 10-07-05
