The HRFA is able to offer an opportunity to anglers, not only to enjoy the pleasures of the Hudson River, but also win some money and garner personal attention. We would like to thank our sponsors, and we ask our general membership to acknowledge and support our sponsors throughout the year.

The HRFA is offering this two day tournament event for a registration fee of $25.00 or $35.00**, knowing that some people are busy with family and/or church, and may only get one day a week to fish. Others, especially the retired, are more fortunate and fish the New York Bight more regularly. We took note that at least half of our registrants only fished one day. There is NO prize for a Two Day Total.

All prizes will be awarded at our regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at 7:45 PM at the Ridgefield Park Elks. All winners are encouraged to attend to collect your winnings and have your picture taken for our website and posterity.  Be advised there may be additional prizes awarded.

The Tournament will be held rain or shine. It is the sole responsibility of the Captain of each entered boat to determine if weather and sea conditions are safe to fish. The purpose of this tournament is to stress "Catch and Release."

Catch and Release Tip:

Rig your boats to be able to bring in these fish alive. It could be worth $1,000.00 to you!

An $8 tub at K-Mart on your boat will keep your fish alive till you get to the weigh in. Put one on board!  Simply keep the water fresh with a bucket from time to time or hook a hose up to your washdown pump. This system works great for keeping your fish alive till released!

Rules of the Tournament

1. The tournament is open to everyone except the immediate tournament staff.

2. All participants must comply with all Coast Guard laws as well as NY State DEC and NJ DEP laws.

3. Only one of each species, ( one bluefish and/or one striped bass ) per angler may be entered each day.

4. Any fish that is frozen, foul hooked, snagged, or caught in an unsporting manner as per IGFA rules will be disqualified.

5. Only legal fish can be entered. State fish and game laws must be followed.

6. Fishing shall begin no earlier than October 8, Saturday morning 6:00 AM and continue through Sunday October 9 at 4:00 pm

7. Weigh-in time shall be 8:00 AM till 4:00 PM Saturday and  7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Sunday.

8. The official weigh-in station will be the docks at the old MM Tackle at Liberty Marina on the Morris Canal in Jersey City.

9. Largest fish is to be determined by weight. In the event of a tie, the longest fish will be declared the winner. If the length is the same the earliest time weighed will determine the winner.

10. All winners may be subject to a polygraph examination and be required to sign an affidavit.

11. HRFA NJ monitors channel 68 on marine radio.

12. **A $25 entry fee will be required for each angler if paid BEFORE SEPTEMBER 30, 2005.  After September 30, 2005 the registration fee will become $35.

13. If competing in a boat, all occupants must be entered in the tournament.

14. Winners & Information will be posted on the official web site of the HRFA   www.hrfa.us and at www.stripedbassderby.com

15. Prizes will be awarded at the October 11 meeting of the HRFA NJ at the Ridgefield Park Elks Lodge at the corners of Spruce Ave and Cedar Street in Ridgefield Park, N. J. The meeting begins at 7:45 PM.

16. The decision of the tournament committee judges will be final.

The Hudson River Fishermen’s Association and all other sponsors and patrons assume no responsibility or liability for any boats entered or individuals participating in the tournament. By entering this tournament I hereby release and discharge the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association, New Jersey Chapter, it’s members and officers, Marina owners and all other sponsors and patrons from any and all claims, demands or causes of action arising out of or resulting from any anticipated or unanticipated incident resulting from my participation in this fishing tournament.

Applications must be received by the HRFA no later than October 7, 2005

In the event of severe weather and or small craft warnings posted the event may be called off or modified. Monitor marine radio 68 for latest tournament info, particularly the leader board.

We want to promote catch and release. If your fish is under the leaders, no need to bring it in.  Keep in mind, we have a lot of prizes so listen to Channel 68.

Anglers are permitted to fish anywhere within the NY Bight, the Hudson River and surrounding waterways.

It will be up to the tournament committee to release any fish and to determine if the released fish is alive or dead.  Their decision is final.

All proceeds from this tournament go benefit the

Hudson River Fishermen’s Association

a 501c3 charter non-profit organization and it’s

Youth Scholarship Program.
