Each month we try to present the members with a quality speaker who
will give a presentation which is worth coming to the meetings for. The speakers we
acquire for the meetings generally give a talk on some fishing or environmental topic
which includes a slide or video presentation. We try and schedule the speakers for topics
that are currently present in our area. For example a striped Bass speaker might
come on in the spring and perhaps another one in the fall. A talk on tuna fishing
might come in late August. A talk on salmon fishing in Lake Ontario might be in
September. And so on. You get the idea.
HRFA Director Chas Stamm talks to the membership of fishing the NYC
Harbor for big Striped Bass and Bluefish in October.
Our speakers are recruited from various magazines, tackle
manufacturers, writers, authors, and club members who have a certain expertise in there
own right. If you have an idea for a guest speaker for the HRFA or would like to see
a particular guest speaker, leave a message on this link.
Capt
Pete has been fishing the western Long Island Sound, East & Hudson Rivers and Sandy
Hook all his life. He is a member of the G.Loomis Pro Staff. Pete loves to teach
about fishing to all age groups specializing in children. He loves seeing kids catch
their first fish. He has thirty years experience as a charter boat captain.
He
entered the first fish in the 2010 HRFA Fishing Contest and what a fish. He was
fishing on New Years Day out of Manasquan Inlet on a wreck and the blackfishing was
red hot. Two of the tog he caught were the largest over several years, one was 14 lb 3 oz
and the other was a huge 20 lb 6 oz. This is what he said about it, A
fish of a life time I have caught 900 lb plus tuna, 800 lb plus marlin, 350 lb plus
halibut, 60 lb plus dolphin and 15 lb blackfish but never in my life did I think I would
join the 20 lb plus Blackfish Club!!! When I first saw it I thought it was world record!!
I would love to tell the story at one of our meetings.
Sounds
like a great story and I know he will share his fishing techniques with us. You just need
to be there.
Thanks
and we are looking forward to see you there! Al White

Restigouche River Lodge (www.restigouchelodge.com) New Brunswick, Canada
The Restigouche River Lodge is located on 3 miles
of crystal clear, Atlantic salmon fly fish water at the junction of the Matapedia River in
New Brunswick, Canada. It is the first camp on the salmon's journey up the Restigouche.
Many anglers consider the Restigouche River the best Atlantic salmon water in the world.
Topics will include some of the rich history of this magnificent
watershed, tackle and methods used to Catch and Release what many consider the
most magnificent game fish in the world. The Gouche, as it is affectionately
called, has one of the largest strains of Atlantic Salmon, with fish of over 50lbs still
returning to spawn. Additional topics included in the slide and video presentation, will
be about the three miles of private water the lodge boasts, which begins at the confluence
of the Matapedia River in Quebec- including nine pools, two major holding pools, and the
superb wet and dry fly fishing available from Mid May thru September.
Sounds like a great fishing adventure to start off the New Year and
something you would be interested in planning on doing this year.

Donovan who is President/Publisher of the New Jersey Angler Magazine
and co-host of the award winning television show New Jersey Angler Video Magazine. Check
there web page for additional details (www.njangler.com)
Bill is
one of the states best known and highly respected anglers and is also a popular
seminar speaker, spending a great deal of time lecturing at boat and outdoor shows, club
meetings and other events. The face-to-face aspect of my seminars and public
appearances is very important to me, says Donovan. I really love doing
personalized instruction, not only because I enjoy teaching but because I always learn
something in the process. He adds, The best anglers are those who acknowledge
that they still have much to learn.

shallow water and deep water fluke fishing.

everyone knows Penn has been the industry standard in saltwater fishing excellence for
over 75 years. Every day they are working to make the Penn experience better for every
kind of angler.
Tom
will bring some new products that Penn has on the market, run through some maintenance and
repair tips, and have an open question and answer session for the group. It should turn
out to be a really great night for everyone. I understand he will also announce a special
offer from Penn at the meeting.

In the future...
Capt.
Paul Eidman from
Reel Therapy Saltwater
Fly Fishing & Light Tackle Charters (www.reeltherapy.com)
Pauls
talk will be about fly/light tackle fishing the waters around Raritan Bay, Sandy
Hook, Staten Island, Navesink, Shrewsbury and Raritan Rivers.
In
addition to being a local fishing guide, Paul works with the Marine Fish Conservation
Network (www.conservefish.org). The MFCN is a
pro fishing organization and wants to be sure that fishermen are aware of the conservation
side of the story.
Many
of our local fish stocks have been rebuilt or are in the process of recovering and we need
let the system (The Magnuson-Stevens Act) work the way it was originally designed.
Note
that there are also specific vital issues at hand right now, like the depletion of forage
fish that all of our game fish rely upon for survival, namely river herring, and
menhaden.
These
species, along with the Weakfish are in trouble and need serious help and as
concerned anglers, you need to be a part of the solution.
Put
simply, we need to put the resource first and business second if we (and our
children) are going to be able to continue to enjoy and utilize this valuable
resource in the future.
