| 2005 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS DIVIDE $10,000 By Carl Bruger Thanks to benefactor Darren Cardinal the 2005 senior scholarship awards grew to a record $10,000 amount, up from the $8,000 given out in 2004. The student applicants provided excellent credentials, wrote impressive essays and generally left those in the position of judging with the opinion that this was a gifted and highly qualified group of recipients. Winning students were notified over the phone by Jim Campbell, past HRFA president and current chairman of the Scholarship Awards Committee. The checks were to be given out during ensuing days when students could juggle graduation schedules, photo opportunities, and HRFA representation at each presentation.
The winner of the top scholarship amount, $5,000, was William Haftec of
The next three highest scorers were the three $1,000 scholarship recipients.
Mathew Turner of
There were four graduating students who earned $500 to help them get started with
their four year college plans. Saini Pillai was the second Dumont H. S. girl in two years
to get an HRFA scholarship. Sara Pellegrini of Hillsdale and Pascack Valley H. S.
matriculated with the same reward for academic excellence. Another Mahwah resident,
Cassandra DePinto will depart from Mahwahs graduation $500 richer and Vincent
Berlingeri of The Scholarship Committee hopes to further expand the monetary awards for 2006. One idea already well received is to offer a $2000 scholarship for a college freshman that can be renewed for the next three years if grades are maintained at a 3.0 level. This would make the monetary total finalize at a potential $8,000 total! It is obvious that the HRFA takes the education of our youth very seriously and is willing to back that philosophy with significant monetary support. Congratulations to all |

Chapter ATTENTION: Scholarship Committee: Dear Scholarship Committee: I am much honored to be chosen by The Hudson River Fishermans Association as your scholarship recipient! I applied for countless scholarships so that I could afford to get a college education. You have helped fulfill my dream! I have been fishing since I was a little boy and never realized that I could hook into $5,000!!!! It meant the world to me, for your members, Mr. Glenn Blank and Mr. Darren Cardinal, attend my high school Senior Awards Night to personally present the Scholarship to me in the presence of my family, friends, teachers, and administration. I was very proud! While completing high school, I am also

I wanted to take this opportunity to again thank The Hudson River Fishermans
Association for presenting me with your $5,000.00 scholarship! Without your help and a few other
scholarships that I received, I would not have been able to afford college. I am finishing up my first year at College has been quite a challenge for me as
my high school sweetheart passed away suddenly after I was only at college for a week. Needless to say, I was devastated and could barely
get the strength I needed to go on, but I did. You
invested your scholarship in me and I had to go on. During
my first semester, I was also commuting 5 hours round trip twice a week to complete my
Firefighter Course that I had begun while I was still in high school. Happily, I graduated as a Firefighter from the I cant tell you how much it meant for me to see your organization represented at the Hunting and Fishing Expo in Suffern a few weeks ago! Enclosed you will find a DVD clip of my high school Senior Awards Night where Mr. Glenn Blank and Mr. Darren Cardinal presented me with your scholarship. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did! I should be home from college in early May. Hopefully, it wont be too late to go striper
fishing with you on the
