i hate people who can't walk: the handicapped: what's the deal with them? they mill about in their wheelchairs, taking up valuable space on the sidewalks, but worse than that, they're SLOW.

is that what you were expecting? shame on you because, no, this won't be a churlish, tasteless attack on the handicapped. no, in fact, all people who do not have the use of their legs would probably join me in this assault on those sloths out there with two perfectly good legs who REFUSE to make proper use of them. this is mainly directed at the girl walking ahead of me through the subway turnstiles as i attempted to exit. she appeared to be confused, which might explain her pace: she seemed to think that she was walking through a revolving door, expecting me to push her through. now, anyone who's walked through a turnstile knows that it's up to you to get yourself through and, in all actuality, this chick knew that too, looking like a kid who, at the very least, should be on their way to school, though where she ends up is anyone's guess. i don't know what this means exactly: should public school teachers in the city get more money for having to put up with this sort or should they all be fired for producing this?

and that's all i have to say.

"as a valued member, we want you back!": so i rejoined columbia house today. i got a mailing from them a week or so ago promising me 15 cds free* if i rejoined and bought four cds in two years or so. since i figured it'd ultimately add up to $6/cd, it seemed worthwhile. their opening pitch, quoted in the title, is incredibly ironic: columbia house started sent me a notice, saying that the period in which i was to buy the required cds was almost up and that, to be considered a member in good standing, i needed to order them right away. here's where things get messy: i moved to new york when the collection notices kicked in and playtime was over and i was told to pay up and i wouldn't get any cds, but i had to be faxed them from new jersey, and even then, i only got the final notice. so, i worked out a deal with them because i hadn't received the proper notification and sent them payment for the four cds i needed to buy. and now they want me back. so here's what i got:
public enemy, yo! bum rush the show
public enemy, fear of a black planet
ll cool j, all world
george jones, the spirit of country
bruce springsteen, darkness on the edge of town
sex pistols, never mind the bollocks...
orb, u.f. off: the best of orb
mc5, the big bang: best of the mc5
teenage fanclub, bandwagonesque
chris bell, i am the cosmos
frank sinatra, all the best
nick cave & the bad seeds, the boatman's call
a tribe called quest, anthology

twenty desert island discs: the following are the 20 cds (actually, more than twenty since a number of them are box sets) i'd bring with me to a deserted island, providing (a) the desert island, for whatever reason, had electrical outlets -- where they'd connect to is anyone's guess -- or (b) i was given an infinite amount of batteries to power my discman. i imagine, though, that going to live on a desert island is not a decision i'd make willingly and it'd more likely be the result of me being stranded or something like that, and i doubt i'd have all of these discs with me at the time.

anyway, in alphabetical order:
abba, gold: greatest hits
burt bacharach, look of love: the burt bacharach collection
beach boys, good vibrations: thirty years of the beach boys
