The One Ring is the most powerful of the Elvish Rings made by the ancients. It brings eternal life and power. The One Ring also has one dark power to it... it gives the ring wearer the almighty evil power. It also gives the wearer invisibility to others. Bilbo Baggins was fortunate enough to have a strong heart and was able to contain the ring, but he didn't know how much trouble his nephew Frodo Baggins would get into with it. Sauron The Dark (the evil necromancer) wore the ring for centuries until a lucky being cut off his finger with the ring on it. The ring fell into a river where two hobbits were playing.

The two hobbits were named Smeagol and Deagol. It was Smeagol's birthday when Deagol found the ring. Deagol showed it to Smeagle. Smeagol said he wanted it because it was his birthday. Deagol didn't give it to him because he had already given Smeagol a birthday present. Smeagol got mad and caught Deagol by the throat and strangled him. Smeagol loved the gold. He put on the ring and found that no one could see him with it on. He then began playing tricks on his family. He took to thieving and always kept muttering to himself and gurgling in is throat. So, because of this he was called Gollum. Gollum then was banished by his elders to a wretched underground cave. He then took to eating fish raw and killing the goblins around him.

One day when Bilbo Baggins came into his cave he thought that he might have a riddle game with him. Bilbo agreed since Gollum said he would lead him out if Bilbo won. They had a five question riddle contest. Bilbo won the last one. Gollum went back to his island in the middle of the cave to get his ring and kill Bilbo. But, it wasn't there. Bilbo had it! Gollum was furious. Bilbo put on his ring and soon found that he could become invisible. Gollum thought he was trying to escape but he was only standing there. Gollum tried to "chase" him down in the tunnel, but Bilbo followed him right to the exit. Bilbo and the dwarfs go to a lake town and plan to kill Smaug the Dragon. Bilbo is sent to steal some treasure from Smaug. He gets a golden cup and brings it back.

Bilbo turns 125 years old. He throws a great birthday party and during that birthday party he gives the ring to his nephew Frodo. If you think that Bilbo had adventures wait 'till you find out what happens to Frodo! This is just a brief sample of what happened to the One Ring. If you would like to learn more read the great Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien. I would appreciate you doing so since the books are very good!
