COMM230: Cinema
SUSSEX COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE CINEMA: Professor Gary Mielo MODULE THREE: CRITIQUES (Feb. 14 - Feb. 27) A Critique is an equal blend of Analysis and Opinion. It discusses a work, offers an judgment, and provides specific reasons that support the critical assessment. A Critique can be constructed in the following manner: First, summarize in no more than two sentences the story and the main theme of the work under review. Second, point out those aspects of the Style (i.e., the manner in which the work is constructed), Tone (i.e., the feeling that the work produces or is intended to produce), and Theme (i.e., the underlying meaning and ideas presented in the piece) that you feel are effective and/or ineffective. Third, provide specific examples to support each one of your points. Finally, conclude with a comprehensive opinion about the work under discussion. For current examples of movie critiques log onto MOVIE PAGE at www.movie-page.com. Then, log onto THE ONLINE COMMUNICATOR: FILM at www.communicator.com/film1.html. This is a site that will provide you with links to other sites. It's a great place to browse. Finally, go to THE INTERNET MOVIE DATABASE at us.imdb.com/Help/ and learn more about how to use the site. For a simpler, more journalistic appraisal of films, as well as to have an opportunity to rate current and past films yourself, try THE CRITICAL MASS MOVIE POLL at www.pathfinder.com/ew/critmass/cmtable.html. |
