MODULE FIVE: FILM GENRE (March 13 - March 26) According to the INTRODUCTION--MOVING IMAGE GENRE-FORM GUIDE AT lcweb.loc.gov/rr/mopic/migintro.html "Of all the types of subject access to moving image works, genre studies has emerged as the most frequently used and theoretically developed system. Today, genre serves as a shorthand for archivists, scholars, and filmmakers, having become the single best recognized and intrinsically appropriate way to categorize film and television works into readily understood classifications." Log onto The Library of Congress' THE MOVING IMAGE GENRE-FORM GUIDE at lcweb.loc.gov/rr/mopic/miggen.html and explore the various film genres. It is recommended that you get to several sections of this site, especially "Genre Terms," "Forms," and "Sublists." We will revisit this site several times this semester when examining specific films that are representative of a particular genre.
