MODULE SIX: THE AUTEUR (March 27 - April 9) What's an AUTEUR? A new video game? An exotic wine? A flash car? No. It's a concept that views a film director as the creative agent behind a film. Log onto and read "THE AUTEUR: LEAVING A PERSONAL MARK ON A FILM" at homepages.unl.ac.uk/sofia/form/auteur.html. After perusing this site, consider the concluding questions: "Does [the auteur] give a film a certain commercial 'extra' - and, if so, to what extent does cinema exploit the notion of the auteur for promotional and advertising means?" Now, log onto THE AMERICAN FILM INSTITUTE at www.afionline.org. Click on "Search AFIOnline" and enter the name of a director in the search box. Use this site to get information about virtually any film director.
