COMM230: Cinema
SUSSEX COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE CINEMA: Professor Gary Mielo MODULE SEVEN: THE WINNERS (April 10 - April 23) People love to make lists. I suppose this is a throwback to when we were kids and were asked to list, in order of preference, those presents we wanted for a birthday or holiday. However, some interesting titles emerge when you look over "THE 100 BEST MOVIES" at www.vclips.com/100bestmovies/. The stated goal of this site is to "find the 100 greatest movies of all time picked by people like you and me. The AFI [American Film Institute] recently picked their top 100 movies but I'm sure if the list was picked by people (like you and me) it would be much different. Many more fun movies (e.g. Batman Forever, ID4) would make the list, as well as many classics. Many web sites on the net have teamed up to bring you The 100 Best Movies." Give this the once over. Also, you may want to check out some of their links. Next, take a look at www.the-movie-times.com/. This is THE MOVIE TIMES Web page. Here you can find more lists, such as the top 20 actors and actresses. However, of more importance is the fact that you can post you own review of a film. For those of you who yearn to see your work on the Web, here's the opportunity. To search Academy Award nominations and winners from 1927 to the present, log onto THE ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES at www.oscars.org/academy/index.html. You may want to linger in this site. If so, go to the academy's home page at www.oscars.org/academy/. It's worth taking some time to peruse the site's various sections. What's more, you'll get a good insight into the extensive activities of the academy. It's more than just a place that awards Oscars. |
