Instruction Sheet

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE USE OF MORELLE SOS SCAR TREATMENT It is recommended to use the Morelle SOS treatment on:

· HYPERTROPHIC SCARS - To soften and make scars cosmetically acceptable
· KELOID SCARS - To improve texture, color, itching, tingling and to reduce the height of the lesion.

APPLICATION:
bulletThe SOS Treatment should only be applied after the skin has totally healed. It must not be placed over sores or over any weeping or open areas.
bulletCut the SOS sheet to fit the scar allowing approximately 1/4” - 1/2” overlap. Place onto the clean, dry, scarred area and hold in place using a hypoallergenic tape, tubular bandage or even under a pressure garment.
bulletTreatment should commence with up to 6 hours on the first day and increase over a period of 1-2 weeks to a maximum of 23 hours per day. Please note that if the patient, through climate or occupational reasons, perspires more than normal, they should remove the SOS sheet twice a day and follow the hygiene requirements.

HYGIENE:
bulletThe SOS sheet must be washed before use and the every day using a mild soap and water. At the same time the area of skin being treated should also be washed with mild soap and water, and dried gently with a clean towel. The SOS sheet should then be gently dried and reapplied.
bulletNo medication, creams, or powders are recommended to be used in conjunction with the SOS sheet.

DURATION OF TREATMENT:
bulletThe length of time needed to complete treatment depends on scar type, age of the scar, size, and patient compliance.
bulletThe treatment will require between 10 weeks and in severe cases up to 40 weeks. However in most cases irritation will reduce in the first few days and a visual difference should be seen after 6 weeks.

PROPHYLACTIC USE:
bulletThe SOS sheet can be used on patients who have medium to high risk of producing Hypertrophic and Keloid scarring. The SOS should not be applied to the trauma site until 3 days after stitches are removed and the wound is totally closed.
bulletAfter following the application instructions, the patient should maintain treatment for 6 weeks. If, in very severe cases, signs of hypertrophy are seen completing the treatment, a further 4 weeks can be prescribed.

USE PRIOR TO SURGICAL EXCISION:
bulletThe SOS treatment can also be beneficial in cases where excision is to be recommended. It can be useful to prescribe the SOS sheet for full use for the 6 weeks prior to surgery. If on investigation the results are positive, surgery can be postponed to ascertain the potential scar reduction with SOS treatment only.
bulletIf the visible results are seen after 6 weeks but surgery is preferred, the same SOS sheet can the be used prophylactically, having seen that the over production of collagen was being reduced prior to surgery. This will soften the scar prior to surgery and reduce the risk of recurrence afterwards.

The Morelle SOS scar treatment is recommended for use under the instruction and supervision of a doctor, nurse, physiotherapist or occupational therapist.

The Morelle SOS scar treatment is supplied NON-STERILE. It can be sterilized by autoclave, gamma or ETO if necessary.
