Mystic
Theatre
presents
In January of 2000,
Mystic Theatre produced Tortoise Shout at the TriBeCa Playhouse.
Based on a poem by D. H. Lawrence, Tortoise
Shout was a multi-media performance piece, compiling poetry by Lawrence,
Anne Sexton, Ruth Krauss, Ted Hughes, ee cummings, Ken Gaertner, Thomas
Lynch, and Muriel Rukysert. All of the poems explored and celebrated
sexuality. With original music and choreography, Tortoise Shout took
the audience on a sensual tour of the most profound connection between
people: sex.
"Tortoise
Shout is a multimedia performance piece that has been inspired by
the "Tortoise Poems" of D.H. Lawrence. The visual, aural, and poetic imagery
is fresh, mind-expanding and sensual. Those who follow this
evening of dance/poetry/theatre will find it inspiring. A special and unique
evening."

Now, coming to the metropolitan New York
area, in the fall of 2002, Mystic Theatre will present a bi-monthly poetry
series of projects created by directors and choreographers. This series
will entertain and enrich our audiences. Those who are able to see all
of the projects will be deeply impressed with the infinite expressions
of presenting poetry on the stage.
Interested directors and choreographers
should submit a one paragraph description of the project they would like
to develop, as well as citations of selected poetry.
