Ken Gaertner's Vagrants in Love follows two homeless men, who are in love at a distance with a fashion model. Entranced by her beauty the vagrants act as her knightsprotector. The model, undergoing a spiritual crisis, converts to a religion based on joy and laughter. The laugh lines appearing in her face destroy the model's once smooth visage, which horrifies the vagrants. The vagrants must employ desperate measures to return the model to her cool, blase' composure. Reminiscent of Beckett and Ionesco, Vagrants in Love zeroes in at the point where belief and beauty intersect. Vagrants promises to place the characters of Norman and Willie alongside Didi and Gogo in the pantheon of well loved theatre bums. Mr. Gaertner's
highly charged language creates characters who live, love and die in a
world filled with the exigencies of real faith.
Vagrants in Love will run in rotating repertory with another new verse comedy, Awakening Galatia by John Newman. Performances will be held at the Burgdorff Cultural Center in Maplewood New Jersey, Sept 10th through Sept 26 Tickets are $40 for both shows. $30 for a single show. We also offer a 20% discount for students and seniors. Reservations can be made by calling (973) 748-2161 This multi-media production of the full length verse comedy will feature mimes, an original electronic music score by Kurt Vega inspired by the jazz of Django Reinhart and scenery reflective of the paintings of Frank Stella. A professional cast of actors complete the presentation of this witty comedy.
