This is a program
leading towards Conversion to Judaism based on Jewish Law for sincere convert
candidates. The candidate will be assigned a mentor who will
assist in designing an individualized “distance learning” study program
in the basics of Judaism. Upon enrollment, the candidate will be
given a list of resources consisting of books, internet web sites etc.
to help in the preparation for conversion. There will be written
assignments that the candidate will be asked to do with the supervision
of the mentor over e-mail and/or the phone. Upon completion of the
written assignments, the candidate will be given an evaluation to make
sure he/she is knowledgeable in the basics of Judaism.
The preparation time depends on the
individual, but on the average, takes from 3-6 months. After completion
of the preparation, a date for the conversion ceremony will be set.
This will require the candidate to come to a Mikvah (ritual bath) in New
York (near Kennedy airport) for immersion, to be witnessed and certified
by an Orthodox Rabbinical Court (Beth Din). The ceremonies are usually
held on Sunday afternoons and last about one hour. Upon completion
of the immersion, the candidate will receive a conversion certificate in
Hebrew and English stamped by the Orthodox Beth Din.
This program services candidates nationally
and internationally. We have successful program graduates in Germany,
South Africa, Bulgaria and the United States. While we make no absolute
guarantees about acceptance, our converts have been accepted in Jewish
communities in the United States, South Africa, Israel, Bulgaria and Germany.
