Old Glory
Author Unknown
Son, do you see Old Glory flying up there
Waving her stars and stripes in the air?
Son that pole could be empty, or even worse yet,
Flying a dictator’s flag, if it wasn’t for a vet.
Son the only reason this country is free
Is because someone else cared for you and me.
Someone else left their home and friends
And boarded a ship for foreign lands,
Where the people’s rights were taken away,
Even their right to speak and pray.
But they went and they stopped it dead
Before it had a chance to spread,
To the beaches of our precious shores,
And down the streets and into our doors,
Where you lay sleeping without a care.
But remember son someone had to be out there,
Carrying a pack and sleeping in the cold,
Or flying a plane shot full of holes,
Or under attack on a ship or sub,
Remember those men and women bub.
Because if they had not been willing to go,
Then Old Glory’s freedom you would never know.
And the right you have to protest your cause
Would have been replaced by some dictator’s laws.
So if you’re thinking to disgrace or burn Old Glory,
You’d better think twice and remember this story,
Because even though that flag gives you the right,
You might do well to get out of my sight.
Aw’w’w you might be big, and you might be fast,
But Old Glory flying on that there mast,
Represents someone’s blood spilled on the ground...
And son I’ll always be big enough to take you down!
